On October 5, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, in a press conference with Islamabad Police Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Nasir Rizvi, claimed that Afghans were among those arrested by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf during the October 4 protest. Citizens were also involved.
The interior minister said, "In our clashes last night, there are a total of 120 Afghan nationals who have been captured. It is an alarming thing that if the people of your country are protesting and It's a matter."
The next day Mohsin Naqvi repeated the same claim in another media briefing.
From October 7 to November 4, Geofact Check continuously sought evidence from senior officials of the Ministry of Interior and Islamabad Police to corroborate the Federal Minister's statement. Despite several attempts, no documents or evidence had been provided as of November 4.
On October 7, GeoFact Check contacted Interior Ministry Director General Media Qadiyar Towana to discuss the claim, but he asked to contact the Islamabad Police on the matter.
Then on the same day, Islamabad Police Spokesperson Taqi Jawad told GeoFact Check that the Ministry of Interior should be contacted for this matter.
After being contacted several times, Taqi Jawad assured Geofactcheck that the data would be shared after the alleged 120 arrested Afghan nationals were produced in court.
He emphasized that "when a government institution gives a statement, it gives it on some basis, we are not political people to give such a statement."
However, multiple requests made by Geofact Check on October 8, 9, 11 and 21 went unanswered. When contacted again on October 31, Taqi Jawad claimed that only the Ministry of Interior could release the data and asked to contact the Ministry of External Affairs as well.
Geofactcheck again contacted Qadir Yar Tawana in the Ministry of Interior, but there was no response from him, while the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, said that they do not have any information on the matter.
No response was received from senior officials of Islamabad Police Mohammad Arsalan Shahzad, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations and Ali Raza, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations.
