Washington (News International New - 26th November 2024) US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller has appealed to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protesters to protest peacefully and avoid violence. The Pakistani government should respect human rights and fundamental freedoms. In Washington, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a press briefing that respect for Pakistani laws and the constitution should be ensured while maintaining peace and order.
During the press briefing, Spokesperson Matthew Miller was asked about the protests of PTI supporters and their alleged clashes with the police. Reacting to this, the State Department Spokesperson said that in Pakistan and around the world, we support freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and organization.
Matthew Miller says that people around the world, including Pakistan, support freedom of expression and peaceful protests.
Matthew Miller said that we call on PTI protesters to protest peacefully and avoid violence. Law and order should be maintained during the protests. It should be noted that earlier, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had also said that whoever reaches D-Chowk will be arrested. Our first and last effort will be to ensure that people's lives are not lost. Property should be safe, and our goal was something else.
He said that peaceful protest was everyone's right. If the request for peaceful protest is approved, it will definitely be allowed. We should not be forced to take extreme measures. Article 245 may be invoked in Islamabad and a curfew may also be imposed, or we could take some third extreme measure. The Interior Minister had made it clear that no one is allowed to protest, sit-in or hold a rally at D-Chowk. If anyone comes there, then they will be arrested.
Mohsin Naqvi had made it clear that there is no doubt that whoever comes to D-Chowk will be arrested, they come and we let them go, this cannot happen now. The Interior Minister had said that if we had fired in response to their firing, they would not have been able to cross the Pattargarh, they wanted a body to be found. Referring to the police officers allegedly injured in clashes with PTI supporters, the Interior Minister had said that the condition of 4 Islamabad Police personnel and 5 Punjab Police personnel was critical. He had said that we could have given the protesters a similar response, but we did not allow the objective to be achieved because their objective was something else and our objective and effort was to protect people and save lives.
