Islamabad (News International / Pakistan News - 12th Dec, 2024 ) :China on Tuesday announced that it is banning exports of gallium, germanium, antimony and other key high-tech materials used for military purposes to the United States.
A day earlier, Washington had announced the latest restrictions on Beijing’s chip sector, in response to which the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has also decided to ban exports of such items, which could affect the US’s ability to manufacture semiconductors.

China, citing “national security” concerns, said that the ban on military and civilian, so-called dual-use, items would take effect immediately.

Beijing said in July 2023 that the country's exporters would need to apply for licenses to send materials such as gallium and germanium to the United States.
Then in August 2024, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced export control measures on antimony and related products, which will take effect on September 15.
Antimony is used in a wide range of products, from batteries to weapons.
China is the world's largest source of helium and germanium, which are produced in small quantities but are essential for making computer chips for cellphones, cars and other products, as well as solar panels and military technology.
