Srinagar (UrduPoint News International/ Pakistan Point News - NNI. 23 December 2024) In illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Democratic Freedom Party, led by senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Shabir Ahmed Shah, has condemned the ongoing target killings and systematic seizure of civilian properties by the Modi government in the occupied territory. According to Kashmir Media Service, Democratic Freedom Party spokesperson Advocate Arshad Iqbal said in a statement issued in Srinagar that the Indian troops are carrying out these operations to push the Muslim majority population towards backwardness.

He specifically referred to the recent martyrdom of five youth in a fake encounter in Kulgam and called it another example of the genocide of Kashmiri youth by Indian forces.

The spokesperson also condemned the systematic seizure of properties and termed it as economically strangling Kashmiris. He urged international human rights organizations to intervene immediately to stop the bloodshed and human rights violations in the occupied territory.

In a joint statement in Srinagar, various Hurriyat leaders and organizations strongly criticized the Indian government’s efforts to portray Jammu and Kashmir as a peaceful region. They termed it a propaganda campaign to mislead the international community. Condemning Indian efforts to colonize occupied Jammu and Kashmir and suppress the Kashmiri people’s demand for freedom, the Hurriyat leaders said that India’s claims of peace and development after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 are baseless and based on lies.

Various political parties have staged a protest outside Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s residence in Srinagar against the unfair reservation policy in occupied Kashmir. The protest, led by senior National Conference leader and member of Indian Parliament Agha Ruhullah Mehdi, included People’s Democratic Party leaders Waheed Para and Iltija Mufti, as well as Sheikh Khurshid of the Awami Ittehad Party.

Over 250 apple trees have been uprooted in an orchard in Kulgam district, highlighting the dire economic situation facing Kashmiri farmers. The attack on Abdul Khalil Eto’s apple orchard took place in the dead of night, causing him huge financial losses. Locals have expressed concern over the increasing incidents of destruction of orchards, which are directly affecting the livelihood of farmers. In the past, the Indian Army has been blamed for such destructive acts, which are aimed at economically weakening the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. An important meeting of Kashmiris in Washington was held at the residence of Sardar Zarif Khan in Springfield, Virginia. Prominent Kashmiri personalities based in the US attended the meeting to highlight the Kashmir cause. The participants decided to launch an awareness campaign through digital trucks on January 5, 2025, to highlight the resolution of the United Nations Commission on Pakistan and India.
