Rawalpindi (UrduPoint Newspaper Latest. December 28, 2024) PTI founder Imran Khan has rejected the deal to be released from jail and placed under house arrest, and urged a boycott of remittances until the government takes meaningful steps to meet their demands, according to a report by Arab News. The PTI founder has stressed the demand for political change in the country.
PTI founder Imran Khan claimed in a post on his social networking website that he was offered a deal to negotiate with the government and provide political opportunities to his party, under which he was sent a message to keep me under house arrest at my residence in Bani Gala. According to the report, Imran Khan says that he would prefer to stay in jail rather than accept such a deal and insisted that all PTI prisoners be released first.
Imran Khan says that if the results of the talks are positive, this civil disobedience campaign can be abandoned. In his statement, PTI founder Imran Khan also criticized the trial of PTI workers related to the May 9 incidents in military courts and condemned it, calling it a violation of transparency and civil rights. The PTI founder also says that the trial should be held in an open court with video evidence, which is required by the Constitution of Pakistan.
In his statement, the PTI founder called on Pakistanis living abroad to boycott remittances and called it important for the restoration of true freedom and democracy in the country. The PTI founder said that the boycott of remittances should be continued until the government takes meaningful steps to fulfill their demands, however, he indicated that if the results of the talks are positive, this campaign can be abandoned.
It should be noted that the first round of talks between the government and the opposition had ended earlier as well. Charters of Demands were sought from the opposition in the upcoming meeting. The negotiation committee agreed to continue the talks, and the next meeting of the negotiation committees was called for January 2. In the next meeting, the opposition will present a list of demands. The first in-camera meeting of the negotiation committee, chaired by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, began with prayers for the success of the talks.
Government and opposition members arrived in Committee Room 5 for the talks. Seven members of the government and three members of the PTI participated in the meeting of the negotiation committee. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Irfan Siddiqui, Rana Sanaullah, Naveed Qamar, Raja Pervez Ashraf and Farooq Sattar participated in the talks from the government alliance. Chaudhry Salik Hussain could not participate, while Asad Qaiser, a representative from the opposition, was present in the meeting. Hamid Raza and Allama Nasir Abbas were part of the negotiation committee.
Opposition members Omar Ayub, Ali Amin Gandapur, Hamid Khan and Salman Akram Raja could not attend the meeting. Addressing the meeting, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq welcomed the members of the government and opposition negotiation committee for attending the meeting. He said that the process of negotiations between the government and the opposition was a good omen. The economic development of the country is dependent on political stability, the current situation of the country required the promotion of political harmony. This country is ours and the people elected us and sent us to solve their problems.
