Tel Aviv (UrduPoint News International / Sputnik - International Press Agency - December 24, 2024) The Israeli Defense Minister has taken responsibility for the death of Hamas's political affairs chief Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital Tehran, threatening Yemen's Houthi leaders that they could also face the same fate. This is the first time that Israel has formally accepted responsibility for the attack and the killing of Ismail Haniyeh. Before that, it was only speculated that it was an Israeli operation.


According to the American broadcasting company, Israel Katz said that Israel killed the leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah and helped overthrow the Bashar al-Assad government in Syria and destroyed Iran's anti-aircraft system. On the other hand, the Israeli army said that missiles were fired at Israel from Yemen and were destroyed. The army said in a statement that sirens were sounded in several areas to warn citizens to go to safe shelters when the missiles moved towards Israel, however, these missiles were destroyed before entering Israeli airspace.

According to the statement, these missiles did not cause any damage in the air or on the ground. The Houthi rebels, who occupy a large area including the capital of Yemen, Sanaa, are continuously firing missiles at Israel. Israel has also bombed the Houthi military installations in Yemen several times. Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz warned the Houthi rebels in Yemen that the fate of the Houthi leaders will be the same as that of the leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah. The top leadership of the Lebanese military organization Hezbollah and the Palestinian military organization Hamas have been killed in Israeli attacks. Iran is backing the Houthi rebels in Yemen, as well as Hezbollah and Hamas, while many Western countries, including the United States, have declared them terrorist organizations.

He said that just as Israel targeted Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Yahya Sinwar in Gaza and Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon, a similar operation will be carried out in Hodeidah and Sanaa in Yemen. During the fierce fighting in southern and eastern Lebanon in recent months, Israeli forces have killed several key Hezbollah leaders. Tensions in the conflict eased a month ago when the parties agreed to a ceasefire. On the other hand, negotiators from the United States, Egypt and Qatar are busy trying to stop the fighting in Gaza that has been going on for a year and two months. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in his speech to the Israeli parliament yesterday that there has been some progress in the ongoing negotiations for the recovery of the hostages in Gaza.


He said that not everything that Israel is doing can be made public. I want to say with caution that some progress has been made and we will not stop taking steps until they all return home. Israeli forces estimate that one-third of the hundred hostages have died.
