According to the Arab Broadcasting Agency, the Israeli army has claimed to have destroyed 80 percent of Syria's land and naval military capabilities. The United Nations, Qatar, Iraq and Saudi Arabia have strongly condemned the Israeli occupation of the Golan Heights. The Security Council, convened at Russia’s request on the situation in Syria after the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government, stressed the need for Syria’s territorial integrity, unity, and the protection of civilians, including the delivery of aid. In the meeting, the United Nations condemned Israel for its illegal Israeli occupation and violation of Syria’s territorial integrity, saying that this important time should not be used to occupy Syrian territory.
Meanwhile, Israel’s tempers rose over Iran’s ties with Syrian fighters. The Israeli prime minister threatened that the new rulers of Syria would have to pay a heavy price for their friendship with Iran. The fate of alternative Syrian rulers to friendship with Iran would be even more terrible than that of Bashar al-Assad. On the other hand, Washington has said that chemical weapons in Syria will be destroyed after being identified. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made telephone calls to Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Syrian opposition leaders to promote international cooperation on the Syrian crisis.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, expressing deep concern over the current situation in Syria. Antony Blinken made it clear that the United States will support the representative government of the people in Syria and will take all possible measures to ensure the flow of humanitarian assistance to protect civilians. Antony Blinken emphasized during the conversation that Syrian soil will not be allowed to be used as a base for terrorism.
He said that the United States is closely monitoring the situation during the transition of power in Syria so that stability in the region is maintained. The US Secretary of State also spoke by telephone with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two leaders discussed the Syrian crisis and the protection of civilians, especially vulnerable communities. The Biden administration has also contacted the Syrian opposition for the first time. According to the report, US officials held talks with leaders of the Syrian opposition group "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" through Turkey. In these talks, it is important to note that in the past, the US had declared "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" a terrorist group, but the current administration has also started talks with this group to resolve the Syrian crisis.
