Tel Aviv (UrduPoint News - 21 December 2024) Despite Israeli threats, the Houthi militia in Yemen fired a missile towards Tel Aviv. The Israeli military said that efforts to intercept the missile coming from Yemen failed. Earlier, alarm sirens were sounded in central Israel.
Israeli police said they were investigating possible locations where the missile fell. According to the Arab Broadcasting Agency, the circulating footage shows signs of destruction caused by the missile. According to Israeli medical sources, 17 people were injured and were taken to the hospital. Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz had threatened the Houthi militia with a Hezbollah-like fate.
Netanyahu assured that anyone who harms Israel's security will pay a heavy price. The two Israeli officials made it clear that the Houthi militia is the last and only remaining arm of the Iranian axis. They were referring to attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and their weakening. In contrast, the head of the Houthi militia, Abdul Malik Al-Houthi, has threatened that in support of the Palestinians, missiles will continue to be fired at Israel and ships will be targeted in the Red Sea. According to Abdul Malik, the Houthi militia is currently in a state of open war with Israel, the United States and Britain.
Some observers believe that Israel has become more determined and prepared to attack the Houthis after largely destroying the capabilities of Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. The report states that a missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels fell and exploded in a public park in southern Tel Aviv, and Israel’s defense system failed to intercept the missile. Al Jazeera says that the missiles were fired from Yemen late at night, one of which fell in a park in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv. Yemen’s Houthis have confirmed that they have fired a hypersonic ballistic missile called “Palestine II.” Footage of the park affected by the missile attack shows a crater.
The missile attack caused sirens to sound in central Israel at 3:44 a.m., sending millions of people fleeing their beds to shelters. Al Jazeera reported that Houthi rebel spokesman Yahya Sari said in a televised speech that the missile hit its target accurately and that defense and interception systems failed to stop it. Yahya Sari said that this attack is a response to the massacre of our brothers in Gaza and the Israeli aggression against our country.
