ISSI signs MoU with KIIR to highlight Kashmir issue

Islamabad (News International / Pakistan News - NNI. 07 December 2024) The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) to promote efforts to raise global awareness about the Kashmir dispute. According to Kashmir Media Service, the MoU aims to promote policy-based research, foster dialogue and promote high-level advocacy initiatives at the global level.
Both institutions have committed to cooperating with each other in their activities to highlight the ongoing human rights violations in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir at the global level.
Briefing the ISSI delegation about his institute, KIIR Chairman Altaf Hussain Wani said that over the past 30 years, the institute has produced several research papers, reports, and articles and is in constant touch with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The institute has established close links with international NGOs, UN agencies, and global media outlets and is an important source of research for government departments and think tanks. ISSI Director General Sohail Mahmood stressed the importance of institutional cooperation, especially the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions. He stressed the need to further expand joint efforts.
He said that it is very important to keep a close eye on the situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, document human rights violations, and advocate for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute based on international law. Sohail Mahmood said that a peaceful resolution of the disputed Kashmir is a fundamental pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy. Stressing on creating awareness about the Kashmir cause among the coming generations, he said that this issue is fundamentally about the inalienable right to self-determination. He said that the historical, moral and legal foundations of the Kashmir dispute are undeniable.
