Lack of capital, slow internet hinder gaming business in Pakistan. Wealth Pak

Game development is emerging as a powerful engine for youth livelihoods. Pakistan’s digital landscape is undergoing a transformation. Experts

Faisalabad (News International New - 07 December 2024) The game development industry is becoming a major source of income for the youth of Pakistan. Speaking to Wealth Pak, developer Adnan Masood said that game development is emerging as a powerful engine for the livelihood of the youth as Pakistan’s digital landscape is undergoing a transformation.

He said that the gaming industry has offered a world of earning opportunities as everyone around the world is a potential customer. He said that game developers are looking for online clients and are providing their services to people living in the US, UK, Australia, Canada and other countries. Game developers are strengthening the national economy by earning millions of dollars annually from international markets. This way of earning is creating jobs for the youth and contributing to the digital economy.

He said that an entry-level game developer can easily earn between $500 and $800 per month. He said that developers working with international studios earned even more and also created jobs for many locals. He said that government educational institutions should offer specialized game development and interactive media courses to enable young people to showcase their talents on an international level.

According to graphic designer Hassan Ali, the gaming industry is booming on all fronts as e-sports are booming and people are earning good money monthly by playing multiple games. He said that good gamers have showcased their skills on multiple video streaming channels and earned through monetization and brand collaborations. He said that realizing the rapid growth of this industry, investors have also started organizing gaming competitions where they have offered lucrative prizes and multiple gifts. People from different parts of the world participate in these competitions online and at the event venue. Muhammad Adil had left his government job to pursue a career as a developer in the gaming industry. He said that the industry has changed in recent years and its evolution has been nothing short of revolutionary.

He said that a few years ago, game development was not considered a successful career in Pakistan, but now the situation has changed as it has become a lucrative professional path. There is no limit to young developers in this industry as they can go to both local and international markets. He said that limiting the youth to local markets is tantamount to killing their potential. Pakistani developers are creating games that can compete on global platforms like Google Play, Steam and Apple App Store. They are capable of developing a wide range of games.

He suggested that the government should establish platforms where international clients can place orders with confidence to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

He said that local developers need financial support, while international clients need hassle-free projects. Our youth have limited access to modern training programs which are very important to compete internationally. Similarly, the government should offer them interest-free loans to set up software houses. The initial capital constraints require urgent attention from policymakers. Solving this problem will create employment opportunities in Pakistan.

He said that high-speed internet is the backbone of the gaming industry, however, for the past few months they have been facing internet outages which have been hurting the gaming business. International game publishers are actively looking for talent from Pakistan as they are cheap and highly skilled.
