London conference speakers express strong support for Kashmiris' right to self-determination

London (News International / Pakistan News - APP - 12th December, 2024) Speakers at a conference held in the British Parliament highlighted the plight of the people in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and expressed their strong support for the inalienable right of Kashmiris to self-determination. According to Kashmir Media Service, the conference organized by the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front UK Ron was attended by officials of the organization, members of parliament, councilors, human rights activists and media representatives.


The conference was hosted by MP Richard Bergen and Liberation Front UK Zone Organizer Amjad Nawaz. MPs Liam Byrne and Rachel Hopkins expressed their strong support for the right of Kashmiris to self-determination and condemned human rights violations in the occupied territory.


MP Tahir Ali urged the diaspora Kashmiris to unite and raise their voices in Parliament, while MP Mohammad Yasin stressed the importance of building relationships with major political parties in the UK to strengthen Kashmir advocacy.


MP Debbie Abrahams spoke about her efforts to secure the release of Liberation Front Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik and human rights activist Khurram Pervez from illegal detention. Former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn described the human rights situation in Kashmir as unstable and said that the Kashmir dispute needed to be resolved in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiris. He urged the ruling party to play its role in resolving the dispute. Human rights activist Professor Shahid highlighted the grave situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and said that India was trying to suppress the freedom struggle of Kashmiris by force. The government is committed to ensuring universal health coverage, says Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Bharath

Islamabad (News International / Pakistan News - 12th December, 2024) Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Health Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Bharath has said that the government is committed to ensuring universal health coverage, access to health facilities for everyone is our agenda and mission. He expressed these views on the occasion of Universal Health Coverage Day. Announcing the latest UHC results for Pakistan, he said that the national level Universal Health Coverage service was at a score of 40 in 2015 and has improved to 53.9 in 2023.


He said that the UHC Coverage Index has been announced with the technical assistance of the British government. There has been a commendable increase since 2015. Islamabad has scored the highest among all provinces and territories at 63.9.


Punjab is next with a score of 55.5, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 51, Sindh with 50.7 and Balochistan with 38.4. Overall, 45 districts of Pakistan have a UHC Service Coverage Index score of less than 40.


57 districts have a score between 50 and 59. Only 11 districts in the country have achieved a UHC Service Coverage Index score of 60 or more. Annually, 13.4 million Pakistanis may fall into poverty due to high medical expenses. The score is a major step towards Pakistan’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. District Jhelum tops the list in the reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health category with an overall score of 78.4.


He said that access to health facilities for everyone is our agenda and mission. The government is committed to ensuring universal health coverage. Pakistan is proud of the significant progress made in advancing Universal Health Coverage. Dr. Mukhtar Bharath said that investing in Universal Health Coverage is a major step towards creating a just society where every citizen has access to quality health facilities. He said that the government is grateful to the Government of the United Kingdom and the British High Commission for their cooperation in the health sector. It should be remembered that Universal Health Coverage Day is celebrated on December 12 every year.
