Rawalpindi (UrduPoint News - 21 December 2024) Military courts have sentenced the perpetrators of the May 9 tragedy. The Field General Martial Court sentenced 25 perpetrators in the first phase. According to the Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army (ISPR), the perpetrators involved in the May 9 tragedy have been sentenced by military courts, and 25 perpetrators are among them. According to the ISPR, Jan Muhammad Khan, involved in the Jinnah House attack, has been sentenced to 10 years, Muhammad Imran Mehboob has also been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, while Raja Muhammad Ehsan, involved in the GHQ attack, has also been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, while Rehmatullah, involved in the Punjab Regimental Center Mardan attack, has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.


Anwar Khan, involved in the PAF base Mianwali attack, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, Muhammad Afaq Khan, involved in the Bannu Cantt attack, has been sentenced to 9 years in prison, and Dawood Khan, involved in the Chakdara Fort attack, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison with hard labor.

On December 13, 2024, a 7-member constitutional bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued an order to pronounce the verdicts of the pending cases. The ISPR says that on May 9, 2023, the nation witnessed the saddening incidents of politically motivated inciting violence and arson. The violent incidents of May 9 are a dark chapter in the history of Pakistan. The Pakistan Army spokesperson has said that these violent incidents are a great shock to the entire nation.

After this dark day, all the evidence and incidents were thoroughly investigated and irrefutable evidence was collected against the accused involved. According to the ISPR, the Field General Court Martial has sentenced 25 accused in the first phase. These sentences have been given after examining all the evidence and completing the due legal process. The convicted accused have been provided with all the legal rights to fulfill the legal requirements.
