According to a statement issued by the ministry on Thursday, in the meeting, the federal ministers assured the exporters of the government’s support in addressing their concerns and ensuring smooth operations for the sector.

He highlighted the performance of the sector, calling it a “growing industry” and a cornerstone of Pakistan’s export economy.
Rana Tanveer Hussain assured the exporters that the government would take immediate steps to resolve any legislative or compliance issues hindering exports. Jam Kamal Khan said that all export orders will be fulfilled by January 15, while the implementation of interim measures as well as the finalization of long-term legislation are being done. He said that new markets like Bangladesh are opening up for Pakistani rice, which further highlights the growth potential of the sector.
The REAP chairman said that the rice sector plays a significant role in Pakistan’s exports, especially in the European Union (EU) and the UK, where it has outpaced competitors including India. He expressed concerns about the recent pesticide compliance issue and sought government support to deal with it effectively.
The exporters stressed the need to strengthen the Department of Plant Protection (DPP) and also demanded an increase in its staff. Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan assured the REAP members that their issues would be addressed on priority basis. He said that all issues will be resolved immediately to ensure rice exports and the growth of the sector.
