Lahore (News International Latest News. December 5, 2024) Former Test cricketer Basit Ali has expressed his opinion on the exclusion of fast bowler Shaheen Afridi from Pakistan’s Test squad for the December-January series against South Africa.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali talked about what could be the reason for Shaheen Afridi’s exclusion from the red-ball squad.
The former batsman said that the removal of the left-arm fast bowler is related to his recent struggles on “dead pitches” which have made it difficult for the fast bowler to perform at his best.
However, he also hinted at another possible reason behind the decision.
Basit Ali said that ‘Shaheen was removed from the squad after being bowled on dead pitches but the controversy started when Shaan put his hand on Shaheen’s shoulder and Shaheen removed it, which is why he was not included in the Test team’.
It should be noted that during the first Test of the Pakistan-Bangladesh series, a viral video surfaced showing Shaheen Afridi removing Test captain Shan Masood's hand from his shoulder.
The incident quickly sparked speculation and debate among fans and analysts.
Speaking on the matter, Shan Masood clarified that there was no fight between him and Shaheen Afridi.
He explained that Shaheen Afridi was experiencing pain in his shoulder and his gesture was simply misinterpreted.
Shan Masood told reporters that there was no fight with Shaheen Afridi, he was feeling pain in his shoulder and unfortunately I kept my hand on the same shoulder.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) yesterday announced the squad for the upcoming red-ball and white-ball series against South Africa, with some notable omissions from the Test squad.
The T20 squad will leave for South Africa on December 6, while the ODI and Test teams will leave on December 13. Red Ball coach Jason Gillespie will join the team in Johannesburg ahead of the Test series.
