Opening ceremony of the 7th International Conference on Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development held at Mehran University

Wednesday, February 19, 2025 Hyderabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th February, 2025) The opening ceremony of the 7th International Conference on Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development organized by Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, was held. Addressing the opening ceremony, Energy Sector Expert Engineer Irfan Ahmed said that an environmentally friendly energy transition is taking place, electricity is being generated from wind and solar energy, there are many wind power generation projects in Sindh and wind power is also cheap. He said that if the equipment is made in Pakistan, the cost of the projects will be reduced because at present most of the equipment is being purchased from abroad. He said that Pakistan has a lot of natural and natural sources and resources to generate environmentally friendly energy, but we are not using them properly. Engineer Irfan Ahmed said that due to the cost of buying equipment for wind power generation pr...

The heart also has a brain, American researchers reveal

 Friday, December 6, 2024

Washington (News International / Pakistan News - APP. 06 December 2024) For those who read the repetition and opposition between the heart and the mind in poetry, researchers from the United States and Sweden have revealed that the heart also has a mind. Researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and Columbia University in the United States say that the heart has its own nervous system, often called a “mini-brain,” and it plays an important role in controlling the rhythm of the heartbeat.

The study, published in Nature Communications, challenges the long-held notion that the heart is controlled by signals from the brain through a completely autonomous nervous system. Traditionally, the heart’s neural network was considered a simple relay system, which simply transmits commands from the brain.

However, researchers have now identified a complex network of neurons embedded within the heart wall that plays a critical role in maintaining and regulating heartbeats.

This little brain plays a key role in controlling the heartbeat, just as our brain controls our movements and breathing, explains Konstantinos Ampatzis, principal investigator at Karolinska Institutet. The team conducted their study using zebrafish, which are an ideal model due to their anatomical similarity to humans.

They discovered different types of neurons inside the heart, including a distinct group with pacemaker properties that directly influence the heart’s rhythm. The discovery could lead to new advances in potential treatments for conditions such as heart disease and arrhythmias. Konstantinos Ampatzis marveled at the complexity of this inner nervous system, saying that better understanding it could pave the way for innovative therapeutic targets.

The researchers aim to discover how the heart’s brain interacts with the central brain under different conditions, including exercise and stress. The study also emphasizes the need for further work on how disruptions in this neuronal network may contribute to various heart diseases.\932
