According to the Biden administration, the United States wants the establishment of a new government in Syria to be in accordance with the wishes of the people there.
According to the American broadcasting organization, White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby has said that the United States wants any new government that emerges in Syria to be in line with the wishes of the people. Referring to the "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham", the organization that overthrew the government of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, John Kirby said that it would be premature to say that this organization, which broke away from Al-Qaeda, and its leader have changed their views.
It should be noted that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and its leader Muhammad al-Julani are on the US list of terrorists. Regarding Israel's attacks on Syria and the Golan Heights, John Kirby said that Israel will provide details about its operation in Syria itself and that it has the right to defend itself. He said that Israel feels many threats to itself, it is concerned about the possibility of the presence of chemical weapons in Syria and their possible use. Talking about Hayat Tahrir al-Sham's separation from al-Qaeda, he said that al-Julani is right to talk about a joint government at the moment, while he is also talking about targeting minorities or other groups, but we will have to wait and see what steps he takes for good governance.
He said that they are still on the terrorist list, but whatever regime emerges from this, the United States wants the Syrian people to have the right to choose their government through a vote in the future and to raise their voice. Regarding Turkey's concerns about an independent Kurdish state in northern Syria, he said that Turkey's concerns for the security of its people are legitimate, and the United States has been in contact with Turkey and has been discussing this with it. He mentioned the Kurdish forces and said that the operations against ISIS in Syria have been carried out with the help of the Syrian Democratic Forces. After the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, the newly elected US President Donald Trump had said that the US should avoid interfering in Syria. In this regard, John Kirby said that when Donald Trump assumes the presidency, he can present his plans. John Kirby said that at present, there are two important issues in the national interest of the US, the first of which is the peaceful transfer of power in Syria and the establishment of a legitimate government led by the Syrian people, while the second thing is in the national security interest of the US that ISIS should not be given the opportunity to rise again like in 2014 and that it cannot take advantage of the current situation in Syria.
Regarding Iran, John Kirby said that Tehran's axis of resistance is no longer viable. Its axis has now ended in many places. Its military and other capabilities have been reduced. Iran is facing a setback in its hegemonic ambitions in the region and is unable to realize its ambitions.
