Tuesday, December 3, 2024
United Nations (News International / Pakistan News - NNI. 03 December 2024) UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed has called the situation in Gaza dire and apocalyptic and appealed to world leaders to take decisive action to prevent further destruction in Gaza. According to media reports, at the ministerial conference on humanitarian assistance for Gaza convened by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the Egyptian capital Cairo, UN Deputy Chief Amina Mohammed stressed the urgent need for assistance in Gaza and its long-term recovery plan in her address.
Representing UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, she said that we are here to ensure an immediate increase in life-saving assistance to the Palestinian people, to ensure readiness for a possible ceasefire, and to lay the foundation for rehabilitation and reconstruction.
She said that more than 44,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been martyred in Israeli military operations.
He added that nearly 19,000 people have been hospitalized due to severe malnutrition in the past four months. He said Gaza now has the highest number of children per capita in the world, where many surgeries are being performed without anesthesia. He said that what we are seeing is perhaps tantamount to the most serious international crimes. Amina Mohammed expressed deep concern about the severe restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza, describing the flow of supplies as outrageously inadequate and unpredictable.
She said that aid through exceptions is neither humane nor effective, citing challenges such as looting, unexploded ordnance and damaged roads. She stressed that humanitarian personnel and operations must be guaranteed protection. Access must be granted to all those in need, wherever they are. UN buildings must be secure at all times.
He called for full support for the entire humanitarian system in Gaza, especially UNRWA, describing it as an irreplaceable lifeline for the Palestinians. He added that there was no alternative to UNRWA alone to meet the basic needs of the Palestinians in Gaza. He reiterated the need for a political solution, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unconditional release of hostages. He also stressed the urgent need for a two-state solution in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions. He said that the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza must end.
