Peshawar (News International Newspaper Latest. December 13, 2024) Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim remarked during the hearing that when a judge gives a decision against the police, the police officers get angry and withdraw the security from the judge. The Chief Justice demanded security for all judges. A two-member special bench comprising Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Ijaz Anwar of the Peshawar High Court heard the petition filed on the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This will not work now. All judges should be given security. All my judges should be given security. The petitioner’s lawyer informed the court that 3 meetings have been held on the court’s orders. Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim remarked that there is security for Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners, but when a judge gives a decision against the police, the police officers get angry and withdraw the security from the judge, but this will not work now.
In Peshawar, 55 to 60 thousand FIRs were registered in a year. Additional Advocate General Inam Yousafzai told the court that SOPs have been made for the security of judges and according to the Home Department, security is being provided to all judges in the risk area. There is no security for the judicial magistrate in the notification. During the hearing, Justice Ijaz Anwar, who was present in the bench, also asked for the formation of a separate force for polio.
The representative of the Home Department told the court that the police would be busy there next week due to the polio campaign, to which Justice Ijaz Anwar remarked that whenever there is a polio campaign, the entire police force is busy in it, form a separate force for polio and solve this problem. It should be noted that earlier, the Peshawar High Court had sought a report from the federal and provincial governments regarding security.
In the court, Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Waqar Ahmed heard a case related to the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim asked the Additional Chief Secretary to tell him what progress had been made so far. The Additional Chief Secretary said that the matter had been raised with the federation and two meetings had been held so far in this regard, steps were being taken for the security of judges and courts.
He said that the security SOPs were also being reviewed. Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim said that due to security, we had stopped judicial work in two districts. The police made the most sacrifices in the war on terrorism. 23,000 police personnel were martyred. The police have not made so many sacrifices in the history of the world, these police personnel were also someone's sons.
Additional Attorney General Sanaullah had suggested that a committee be formed regarding the security of judges and that judicial officers and representatives of the Bar Council be included in this committee. Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim had said that security cannot improve unless the federation and the province are on the same page. The Chief Justice had directed the submission of a report regarding the security of the province and adjourned further hearing of the case.
