Islamabad (News International / Pakistan News - 15th Dec, 2024 ) Singer Parastu Ahmadi has been detained in the Islamic Republic of Iran for violating a strict dress code for women.
The 27-year-old singer was not wearing a hijab during one of her virtual concerts on Thursday, with her long black hair falling over her shoulders. She was wearing a sleeveless black top.
Iranian authorities have filed a case against her, calling the attire against the country’s dress code.

Posting a video on YouTube, Ahmadi said, “I am Parastu, a girl who wants to sing for the people I love.
This is a right that I cannot ignore. Singing for this land, which I love so much.
Her online concert has been viewed more than 1.4 million times, with people praising her courage.
Where is Parastu Ahmadi now?
Parastu's lawyer, Milad Panahpour, said his client was arrested in the north of the country, while two musicians from her band were detained at their music studio in Tehran.
"Unfortunately, we are not aware of the charges against Ms. Ahmadi, we do not know who arrested her or where she is being held, but we will follow up on this matter in accordance with the legal requirements," Panahpour told The Associated Press.

Women's rights have been a complex issue in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
In 2022, Iran witnessed a wave of mass protests following the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish-Iranian woman. However, the government has cracked down violently on peaceful protesters and activists.
Many Iranian women say they are against the strict dress code, especially the mandatory hijab law.
