Saturday, January 11, 2025
Geneva (UrduPoint News International- 11th January, 2025) The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that respiratory problems are causing the death of 650,000 people worldwide annually, so now is the time to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza.
A program called Science in Five was broadcast on official platforms under the World Health Organization, in which health experts said that the best way to protect people from influenza disease and deaths caused by it is vaccination. In the said program, Dr. Shoshana Golden, an official of the World Health Organization’s Emergency Unit, while talking about seasonal influenza, said that experts and public health scientists around the world can protect people from this virus.
Dr. Golden said that the influenza virus is complex and constantly changing its form. The best way to prevent this disease and death is to get vaccinated. He explained that this means that it is very important to keep people informed about the influenza virus and vaccine updates. The influenza vaccine, also known as flu shots or flu jabs, is a vaccine that protects against infection with the influenza virus. Because the influenza virus changes rapidly, the vaccine is made twice a year with a new version.
It should be noted that influenza is a smart virus and comes with many strains. This virus is constantly changing itself to overcome the immune system and cause different diseases. It is present in every country. Hundreds of thousands of people die every year from seasonal influenza. Although the common cold is very common, it can be more dangerous for people with a weakened immune system. (Influenza) Flu is a lung infection that is spread by a virus. People can get the flu at any time of the year, but it is most common in the fall and winter. Symptoms of this disease include fever, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, cough, weakness, etc.
Most of the above symptoms last for 2 to 7 days, cough and weakness can last for up to 6 weeks. This disease can make daily activities difficult. Dr. Golden said that seasonal influenza is becoming a major burden on the World Health Organization. People who must be vaccinated to protect against the virus are at risk of severe illness or death. These patients include the frail, pregnant women and people with chronic diseases. Similarly, people with underlying heart disease and lung problems, people with diabetes and obesity, and people with HIV are at risk of severe illness and death from seasonal influenza.
