Sixty percent of terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir were Pakistani, says Indian Army Chief

ISLAMABAD (News International/ Pakistan Point News - 13th January, 2025 ) Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, while addressing the traditional annual press conference ahead of Indian Army Day on 15th January, said on Monday, January 13, that the situation on the country’s northern borders is ‘sensitive’ but stable.

General Dwivedi said, “At a time when we are moving from terrorism to tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, 60 percent of the terrorists killed there are Pakistanis while 80 percent of the terrorists active in the state are also Pakistanis.”

Regarding the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army Chief said that the situation is “overall under control and the ceasefire agreement with the Pakistani side on the Line of Control is in place.

‘Pakistan-administered Kashmir will itself be integrated into India’
General Dwivedi, however, said that infiltration attempts were ongoing and the “infrastructure of terrorism” on the Pakistani side remained intact.
Situation on the border with Bangladesh
Replying to a question regarding the situation on the border with Bangladesh, General Upendra Dwivedi stressed the strategic importance of the bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh. He referred to a recent statement by the Bangladesh Army Chief, which acknowledged the mutual strategic importance between the two countries.
Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-ul-Zaman had said recently, “India is strategically important to us and Bangladesh is also important to India.”

It should be noted that Dhaka has strongly objected to the issue of the installation of barbed wire fencing on the Indo-Bangladesh border by the Indian Border Security Forces and on Sunday the Indian High Commissioner was summoned to the Foreign Office in Dhaka to express his displeasure.
The Indian Army Chief assured that there is currently no threat from any side. He said, “In today’s history, there is no threat from any side. Even when this change took place, I was in touch with the Bangladesh Army Chief. We also had a video conference in November.”
Potential impact of the understanding between Bangladesh and Pakistan on India
Regarding military cooperation between the two neighboring countries, he said that joint exercises have been postponed in view of the current situation.
But General Dwivedi expressed hope, “As the situation improves, these exercises will also continue. So far, the relations with the army are good and excellent.”
‘Issues resolved’ with China
The Indian Army Chief said that the ‘issues have been resolved’ in the Depsang and Demchok areas of eastern Ladakh.
He added that as far as troop patrolling and cattle grazing by farmers are concerned, all participating commanders have been given the authority to handle these issues at the ground level.
India and China agree to resume border trade
He also stressed the role of ‘coordination between the media and security forces in nation-building and national security’. The Indian Army Chief said, “I am a strong supporter of the idea that the media and security forces have great potential to come together towards nation-building and national security.”
