Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - DW Urdu - 19th January 2025) According to reports received from Jerusalem on Sunday, 19th January, under the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza war that came into effect three hours later but before noon, local time, the Palestinian militant organization Hamas was to release three female hostages as a small but first group, whose list of names it had handed over to Israeli government representatives through mediators today.
The Gaza ceasefire agreement began to be implemented with a delay
The three women are Israeli citizens and were among the approximately 250 people who were taken hostage by Hamas fighters during the terrorist attack in Israel on 7th October 2023.
About 1200 people were killed in this attack, while the Hamas militants also took the hostages with them to the Gaza Strip while returning.
The three Israeli hostages were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza after being held by Hamas for more than 15 months. The Red Cross said they were in good physical condition.
Ninety Palestinian prisoners released from Israeli jails
Red Cross representatives in Gaza handed the three women over to the Israeli army, which later confirmed that the three former hostages were being held by the Israel Defense Forces.
Shortly after, on Sunday evening, the Israeli government officially announced that Hamas had released the three hostages, a list of whose names Hamas had indirectly provided to Israel earlier this afternoon.
The Israeli government said that the three women who were released had now returned to Israel.
Meanwhile, Hamas also said that in exchange for the three female hostages it released, the Israeli authorities are releasing about 90 Palestinian prisoners from various prisons today.

Romi Gonen
Romi Gonen is from northern Israel and was among the dozens of Israeli hostages who were taken by Hamas fighters after attacking and capturing a gathering at the Supernova music festival on October 7, 2023.
In this terrorist attack by Hamas, 364 of the participants of the music festival were killed on the spot.
During this attack, Romi tried to escape from there in her car and also called her mother in distress. However, Romi's car was later found abandoned near the music festival and then the mobile phone signal revealed that Romi's phone was in the Gaza Strip.

Emily Damari
The second Israeli hostage to be released, Emily Damari, is the daughter of an Israeli father and a British mother. Emily’s mother emigrated to Israel from the UK and Emily was born in Israel.
Emily grew up in the same Israeli settlement of Kfar Aza, which is located on Israel’s southern border with the Palestinian enclave of Gaza, where a music festival was attacked by Hamas militants.
Emily was at home when Hamas attacked the community of Kfar Aza and was abducted by Hamas fighters.

Doron Stein-Bresher
The third Israeli hostage released by Hamas today is Doron Stein-Bresher, a veterinary nurse.
On the day of the October 7 attack, she informed her parents in a mobile phone message that she had been kidnapped. Doron Eshtein-Brasher, who holds both Israeli and Romanian citizenship, was seen in a video released by Hamas in January last year with two other Israeli hostages.
