Faisalabad (UrduPoint News - 06 January 2025) The University of Agriculture Faisalabad has launched an initiative to help local farmers increase wheat production. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, said that the faculty of the university is working tirelessly to address real-world agricultural challenges.

He said that this campaign will provide valuable experience to both farmers and students. With the help of this campaign, students will try their best at their level to convince farmers to adopt the latest agricultural practices so that they can increase their productivity.

He said that the students will also make farmers aware of the benefits of timely sowing, use of certified seeds and balanced fertilizers. The University of Agriculture had launched this campaign last year and realizing its positive results, they are repeating this exercise with a new approach this year.

Dr. Sarwar said that without adopting modern agricultural technology, we cannot advance our agriculture in the face of climate change. He said that the University of Agriculture, in collaboration with Washington State University, has succeeded in introducing new varieties of wheat that are in line with global production standards. Before these varieties, new varieties of various crops have also been introduced, including sugarcane, soybean, corn, cotton and others, to ensure stable food supply.

University of Agriculture Public Relations Head Shahryar Ahmed said that several students of the university visited five divisions including Faisalabad, Lahore, Sahiwal, Gujarat and Gujranwala where they interacted with farmers. He said that this 13-day wheat campaign helped farmers convey their practical problems to the students, who conveyed these concerns to their teachers.

He said that the faculty will work diligently to find solutions to these problems so that the farmers can reap the rewards of their hard work. The students effectively shared the recommendations of experts and guided the farmers about the latest trends and eco-friendly technology. He said that the farmers are in dire need of the latest and information regarding agricultural issues so that they can achieve good yields. He said that the campaign was launched in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture Extension Punjab and students of postgraduate and undergraduate programs visited the fields. All the students were well prepared to train the farmers to increase the productivity of wheat. All the students have been instructed to communicate with the farming community in the local language so that they can understand the message.
