Islamabad (News International / Pakistan Point News - 25th January, 2025) The Indian government has protested to the British government over the violent protests against Kangana Ranaut's film 'Emergency' and said that it is in touch with the British authorities regarding why obstacles are being created in the screening of the film.

The film Emergency is based on the events of the Emergency imposed in the country by former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975.

After the film was completed, there was a lot of controversy in India too and the Censor Board gave it a certificate for release after great difficulties.

Can Bollywood bring India and Pakistan closer?

Sikh groups in the UK have particularly raised their voices against it and have held protests calling the film anti-Sikh, which has affected the screening of the film in several parts of the UK.

What did New Delhi say?

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have seen reports of how several cinema halls were disrupted during the screening of the film 'Emergency'. We are in constant touch with the UK about incidents of violent protests and threats by anti-India elements.

And we are concerned about this. Freedom of expression cannot be selectively enforced."

The Indian spokesperson added, "Those who obstructed this (film screening) must be held accountable. We hope that the UK will take appropriate action against those responsible. Our High Commission in London is in touch with its members to protect our community."

India's statement came in the wake of reports that some "masked Khalistani elements" in northwest London had threatened people who had gone to watch actress Ranaut's film Emergency and also threatened the owners of some cinema halls where the film was being screened.

British MP Bob Blackman said in this regard that "many people bought tickets for the screening of 'Emergency' at the Heroview Cinema. After about 30 or 40 minutes, masked Khalistani men entered and threatened the audience and forced the screening of the film to end."

'Emergency' had a difficult time getting through the censors in India, when Sikh organizations objected to its release.

They accused the film's producer Kangana Ranaut, who also played the role of Indira Gandhi in the film, of misrepresenting the Sikh community and distorting historical facts.

'Hate speech against Aamir Khan is a campaign'

In India too, various Sikh organizations have been protesting against the release of this political film.

The government of the Indian province of Punjab has also banned this controversial film.
