The British government should include the Kashmir issue among its priorities, a memorandum was presented to the British Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street in London.

London/Muzaffarabad (News / Pakistan Point News - APP. 05 February 2025) Jammu Kashmir Self-Determination Movement International has submitted a memorandum to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The Chairman of the All Parties Parliamentary Kashmir Group, Barrister Imran Hussain MP, Dr. Afzal Khan MP, Sibi BE, Tahir Ali Khan MP, Muhammad Yasin MP and Andy McDonald MP, along with the movement officials, presented a memorandum at 10 Downing Street, London, expressing complete solidarity with the Kashmiri people.

On this occasion, the delegation of Jammu Kashmir Self-Determination Movement International included Founder Chairman Raja Najabat Hussain (Sitara Pakistan), General Secretary UK Javed Tariq, London Chairperson Nadia Jafri, West Midlands Chairperson Asia Hussain, UK Youth Chairman Zeeshan Arif and former Mayor of Luton Muhammad Riaz Butt.

While the movement officials informed the British government about their historical role in the Kashmir issue, on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, they expressed their complete solidarity with the people of occupied Kashmir and expressed their determination that our struggle will continue in every court of the world, in every country of the world, in every capital of the world until the complete independence of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and its accession to Pakistan. We will continue our efforts with the support of the Friends of Kashmir in the British Parliament and our movement will continue to play an active role until the human rights violations in occupied Kashmir are stopped, the Kashmiri leaders are released and the Kashmiris achieve their right to self-determination.

The Kashmir Petition appealed to the British government that just as the British government holds a unique position in the world for the protection of human rights and justice, similarly we demand the British government to include the Kashmir issue in its priorities, just as the Labour Party has included the Kashmir issue in its priorities. We believe that the solution to the Kashmir issue is also the historical and moral responsibility of Britain.

The ruling party in Britain is the Labour Party, which has a long-standing relationship with the Kashmiris and the Labour Party has always fully supported the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. Kashmiris have high expectations from the current Labour Party government and we are confident that the Labour Party will play its full role in resolving the Kashmir issue peacefully during its tenure.

The Kashmir Petition has demanded that the British government not only view the Kashmir issue in the context of trade agreements or economic relations, but also examine it in accordance with the fundamental principles of human rights and justice. Only true stability can promote prosperity and trade opportunities in the region. Considering the ongoing human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and the transformation of occupied Kashmir into the world’s largest prison for decades, trade with India should be considered.

The Kashmir Petition said that despite efforts at the international level, the situation in Indian-administered Kashmir has further deteriorated. The people of occupied Kashmir have been completely deprived of all kinds of basic freedoms. And human rights violations continue. Arrests, enforced disappearances and targeted killings are adding to the suffering of the Kashmiri people.

The voices of Hurriyat leaders, human rights activists and political activists are being silenced and they are facing the longest imprisonment and atrocities without end. The majority of Hurriyat Conference leaders are being held in jails by India. Prominent political prisoners including Muhammad Yasin Malik, Khurram Pervez, Asia Andrabi, and Shabir Shah are being severely mistreated, and some are facing the threat of death penalty.

The historic convictions of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru are a reminder of the atrocities committed against Kashmiri political leaders. The UK has a unique and historic responsibility on the Kashmir issue, which dates back to the partition of the subcontinent in 1947. Today, there are over a million British citizens of Kashmiri origin living in the UK who are deeply traumatized by the atrocities committed in their homeland.

The main points highlighted in the Kashmir Petition include the complete release of all Kashmiri prisoners from Indian jails, raising the Kashmir issue at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and other international forums and ensuring the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination, holding a debate in the British Parliament on the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A by the Indian government, conducting an international investigation into human rights violations in Kashmir, and other points in which it is hoped that the UK will take practical steps to resolve this long-standing humanitarian crisis and play a key role in resolving the Kashmir issue under the supervision of international observers.
