Islamabad (news international Newspaper Latest - NNI. 08 November 2024) A high-level meeting was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal in which concept proposals for new projects under Pakistan-UK Education Gateway Phase 2 were made. The processing framework was discussed. The meeting was attended by Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Member Science and Technology Dr. Najeebullah, Country Director of British Council Pakistan Mr. James Hempson and Head of Education British Council Miss Sarah Pervez.

During the meeting, the relevant institutions gave a briefing on the achievements of Pakistan-UK Education Gateway Phase 1, in which it was stated that the British Council supported 21 research travel grants and 8 large-scale research partnership grants projects.


Additionally, more than 1,000 researchers and reviewers across Pakistan were trained to enhance research capabilities while 51 university offices for research, innovation and business activities were accredited.


At the meeting, the officials informed the participants that the Pakistan-UK Education Gateway Phase 2 aims to build on the partnerships and achievements achieved in Phase 1 by further improving higher education research and development, sector productivity and a training This includes contributing to the development of a qualified, ethical and globally competitive workforce.

Phase 2 will focus on fellowships for international faculty and students, work for purposeful research and commercialization, leadership and governance for high performance, and capacity building for quality higher education.
