Islamabad (News International New - 15th November, 2024) The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest convoy has reached D-Chowk in Islamabad’s Red Zone. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon confirmed that the police and paramilitary forces did not stop the protesters.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, the situation is peaceful at the moment, but he did not confirm whether the government will hold talks with these protesters. Since the start of the protest, the PTI has been insisting that they will reach D-Chowk in Islamabad and protest for the release of Imran Khan in any case. However, the Federal Interior Minister told reporters in a conversation that two meetings have been held with former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Adiala Jail in this regard within 24 hours.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and former First Lady Bushra Bibi are also on their way to D-Chowk on a container, but before them, PTI workers have reached D-Chowk by crossing containers and barriers. PTI has announced a sit-in at D-Chowk in Islamabad until their demands are met. It should be noted that these PTI protesters have come to Islamabad from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa demanding the immediate release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan from jail. On the other hand, political observers are calling Bushra Bibi’s leadership of the convoy important and say that PTI is now perhaps serious about the “real final round”. During the past two years, PTI has held several protests, but it has failed to harness the power of its workers. Analysts say that despite its popularity, the tragedy of the PTI is that it has an immature mindset in making political decisions. Analysts consider the PTI's decision to dissolve its governments in important provinces like Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and resign from the National Assembly seats after the no-confidence motion against the Imran Khan government as a fundamental mistake of the PTI. This mistake led to differences within the party and important political leaders of the party, including former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, who have extensive political experience, have stepped aside. Analysts say that Bushra Bibi’s expression of no confidence in the PTI legal team in open court during the hearing of the case in Adiala Jail made it clear that there are large-scale differences within the party, which former Prime Minister Imran Khan has also expressed in meetings with party leaders in prison. Several former party officials have also criticized the current leadership of the party inside and outside parliament. According to analysts, time will tell whether Bushra Bibi will remain in politics or not, but at present her position is that of Begum Kulsoom Nawazwali, who herself came out in the field and fought for the release of her husband after General Musharraf seized power and arrested Nawaz Sharif. PTI's social media accounts are continuously sharing videos of Bushra Bibi in which she is trying to increase the morale of PTI workers. Addressing the workers at a point after the convoy departed, she said that until Khan comes to us, this march will not end. I will stand until my last breath and you have to support me.
Analysts are comparing this call for protest with Kulsoom Nawaz's protest. The PTI had said that Bushra Bibi has no political role, but by yesterday evening it had become clear that Bushra Bibi is leading this protest for Imran Khan's release and other demands. She mobilized the workers and said in another speech that my children and my brothers, you people have to support me, even if you don't, I will stand because this is not just a matter of my husband (Imran Khan), it is a matter of this country and the leader of this country. In response, the workers enthusiastically shouted slogans and assured Bushra Bibi that they would support her. Bushra Bibi's active role in this protest also became a part of the statements of the government ministers.
Bushra Bibi has been somewhat active on the political scene since Imran Khan called for a protest on November 24 and was released on bail in the Toshakhana case. In her speech, the former first lady tried to give a message regarding Imran Khan's release by addressing the powerful circles. She had said that she also wants to tell the institutions that Imran Khan does not want to take revenge on anyone after coming to power. He has learned in jail that he keeps the door of forgiveness open after coming to power. Whoever is saying about him that he will take revenge, it is all a lie.
Political analysts say that these are unusual circumstances for the PTI and its leader Imran Khan has been in jail for more than a year. In such a situation, Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan or Bushra Bibi have all emerged on the political scene to fill their gap. It is premature to call Bushra Bibi's recent statements or role in party affairs her entry into politics. Rather, her role is to keep the workers and the party active and fill the void left by Imran Khan.
In the past, the concept of PPP in Pakistani politics was incomplete without the Bhutto family, and the concept of PML-N was incomplete without the Sharif family. Similarly, Imran Khan is essential for PTI because the situation is unusual for PTI at the moment and when a party leader is in jail, only his family members have to come forward. Bushra Bibi is also present on the political scene at the moment, just like in the past, after Nawaz Sharif went to jail, his wife Kulsoom Nawaz became active for some time.
They say that inheritance does not mean that instead of Imran Khan, his sisters or wives are now active in party affairs, but rather if he gives any public position to his wife or sisters or appoints them to any government position, then this would be inheritance. Inheritance politics is like Bilawal Bhutto becoming the Foreign Minister without any experience or Maryam Nawaz Sharif becoming the Chief Minister of Punjab just because she is the daughter of Nawaz Sharif. These are public positions where these people have not had even a day's experience. There was no one in the PPP who could become the Foreign Minister or there was no one in the PML-N who could become the Chief Minister.
He said that undoubtedly, hereditaryism is seen everywhere in Pakistani politics, to the extent that more than half of the seats in the national and provincial assemblies are being elected by people from the same family, and in many families, brothers, brothers against each other, or father and son against each other, contest elections on tickets of different parties, while it is considered a common thing for a father to contest elections on a National Assembly seat and a son or daughter on a provincial seat. The purpose of contesting elections against each other is also to ensure that the seat does not go out of the family. He said that it would be premature to say anything like this about the PTI now. If Imran Khan comes to power again and appoints Bushra Bibi or his sisters to public positions, then this hereditaryism will occur, but no such case has come to light so far.
