Islamabad (News International/ Pakistan Point New - 25th November, 2024) As the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is being observed across the world today, women in occupied Jammu and Kashmir are facing grave atrocities. A report released by Kashmir Media Service on the occasion of this day has highlighted the horrors of Indian state terrorism since 1989. According to the report, Indian soldiers have martyred 2,353 Kashmiri women and raped 11,265 during this period.
During this period, more than 22,980 women have become widows, while dozens of women, including prominent leaders like Asia Andrabi, have been illegally detained in notorious jails like Tihar Jail for more than seven years. These actions reflect a systematic effort to humiliate and silence Kashmiri women through black laws and violence.
The report, citing the Kannan Poshpora gang rape, the Shopian rape and double murder and the Kathua gang rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl, said that sexual violence is being used as a weapon of war in occupied Kashmir.
All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders Zamruda Habib, Yasmin Raja and Farida Behenji, in their separate statements issued in Srinagar, have demanded the international community to hold India accountable for the ongoing heinous crimes against women in the occupied territory. The Hurriyat leaders condemned the torture of four civilians by the Indian army in Kishtwar during their detention and demanded strict action against the culprits.
Indian Army, police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force personnel today conducted a cordon and search operation in Handwara area of Kupwara district. Congress chief in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Tariq Hameed Qara, while talking to reporters in Srinagar, has demanded that the Modi government return all the rights snatched from Kashmiris in August 2019, including land and property rights. Meanwhile, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi has demanded an impartial investigation into the police firing that killed three Muslims during a peaceful protest in Uttar Pradesh. The Muslims were peacefully protesting against the controversial survey of a Mughal-era mosque where the Modi government wants to build a temple as per its Hindutva agenda. Asaduddin Owaisi demanded action against the police personnel involved in this brutal act.
