Damascus (News International New - 10th December, 2024) Israel has carried out airstrikes on various military sites in several areas of Syria. According to Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the number of these attacks has exceeded 100. Rami says that Israel is destroying Syria’s military capabilities after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s government and Bashar’s flight from the country.
Israel informed the UN Security Council that it had taken “limited and temporary measures” in a demilitarized zone on the border with Syria, aimed at countering any threat, especially to the population of the Golan Heights, which Israel occupies. Meanwhile, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that this was a temporary measure that Israel took in response to the withdrawal of Syrian troops from the area. Ultimately, what we want to see now is full compliance with the agreement. We will monitor it to see that Israel is doing so. According to the Arab Broadcasting Agency, Syrian security sources said that Israel bombed key air bases in Syria and destroyed dozens of military helicopters and fighter jets there. Israel has been watching the uprising in Syria with concern and has also been assessing a major strategic shift in the Middle East. The fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime has eliminated Iran's stronghold from which it used to exert influence in the region, and Israel is increasingly concerned about the rapid advance of opposition groups. Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz has said that his army will destroy heavy strategic weapons in various parts of Syria, including surface-to-air missiles, air defense systems, surface-to-surface missiles, cruise missiles, long-range missiles and coastal missile systems. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar told reporters in Jerusalem that Israel is striking strategic weapons, such as remaining chemical weapons or long-range rockets and missiles, to prevent them from falling into the hands of extremists.
