Opening ceremony of the 7th International Conference on Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development held at Mehran University

7 new judges appointed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan take oath

Islamabad (News - 14th February 2025) Seven new judges appointed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan took oath. The oath-taking ceremony was held for the first time in the Supreme Court on the lawn of the court premises. Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi administered the oath to all seven judges. Islamabad High Court Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Attorney General, lawyers, officers and court staff also participated in the oath-taking ceremony.


The judges who took the oath of office in the oath-taking ceremony of the new 6 permanent judges and one acting judge include Justice Aamir Farooq, Justice Hashim Kakar, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Justice Shakeel Ahmed, Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Salahuddin Panhor. In addition, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb also took the oath as an acting judge of the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi administered the oath to Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb.


It should be noted that yesterday it was reported that the schedule of the oath-taking ceremony of new judges in the Supreme Court of Pakistan had been changed. The oath-taking ceremony of the new judges was scheduled to be held on Friday. The oath-taking ceremony was postponed due to delay in the notification of the judges. The notification for the appointment of new judges was issued by the Ministry of Law late last night. According to the previous schedule, the oath-taking ceremony of 6 permanent and one temporary judge was to be held yesterday.

The Judicial Commission approved the appointment of Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Amir Farooq to the Supreme Court a few days ago. In addition, the appointment of Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb as an acting judge was approved. It should be noted that yesterday the Ministry of Law and Justice had also issued a notification for the appointment of 6 permanent judges and one temporary judge of the Supreme Court, including the appointment of Justice Sarfaraz Dogar as the acting Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court.

According to the notification of the Ministry of Law and Justice, Justice Sarfaraz Dogar will perform his duties until the appointment of a permanent Chief Justice. The Ministry of Law and Justice had issued a notification after the approval of the President, according to which Justice Hashim Kakar, Justice Shafi Siddiqui, and Justice Salahuddin were appointed judges of the Supreme Court. According to the notification, Justice Shakeel Ahmed, Justice Amir Farooq, and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim were also appointed judges of the Supreme Court. Justice Ijaz Swati will perform his duties until the appointment of a permanent Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court. Similarly, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb was appointed as the Acting Judge of the Supreme Court under Articles 181 and 175A, while Justice Ijaz Swati was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court. Justice Junaid Ghaffar was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, while Justice Atiq Shah was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court.
