Washington (News International New - 24 November 2024) US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Brooke Rollins, CEO and President of the America First Policy Institute, as Secretary of Agriculture. Trump said in his statement that as Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke will lead efforts to protect American farmers and ranchers, who are the backbone of our country. If Rollins’ nomination is confirmed by the Senate, she will head a department with a staff of 100,000 people and an office in every county in the United States.
Various sectors, including nutrition programs, forestry, agricultural lending, food security, rural development, agricultural research and trade, fall under the purview of this department. Its budget in 2024 was more than $437 billion. Trump said in his statement that Brooke has an unparalleled commitment to the goals of supporting American farmers, achieving American food self-sufficiency and restoring small towns that depend on agriculture.
Brooke Rollins previously headed the Domestic Policy Council in Donald Trump's first two terms in office. She heads the right-wing think tank America First Policy Institute, whose experts worked with the Trump campaign on policymaking. Earlier, Donald Trump announced the nomination of Scott Besant as Treasury Secretary. Besant has extensive experience in the investment sector. If Scott Besant's name is confirmed, he will be the first openly gay Treasury Secretary in US history. Besant is a billionaire who previously supported Democrats but later became a strong supporter of Trump. He is a strong supporter of Trump's tax cut plans and the imposition of tariffs on China. Trump said in his statement that Scott is respected as one of the world's leading investors and geopolitical and economic strategists.
