Lahore ( News International Newspaper Latest. 08 October 2024) Due to the alarming situation of smog, the Punjab government has issued orders to close all parks, recreation centers and museums from November 8 to 10. It will be effective till November 17. The notification states that violation will lead to arrest and may also be punished with fine.
On the other hand, the Punjab government has also issued a notification to extend the Green Lockdown. The Green Lockdown will be applied in public places till November 17. Shops and museums will be closed for 10 days, public and private parks, zoos, playgrounds will be closed.
It has also been informed that according to the notification of the Punjab government, the entry of the public has also been closed to the historical places, tombs, Joyland. The decision will apply to Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Multan divisions. Meanwhile, actions are being taken against those who violate environmental laws. Police officials say that during the ongoing campaign to prevent smog, 200 cases were registered and 212 suspects were arrested.
57 suspects were arrested in City Division, 75 in Kent, 21 in Civil Lines, 6 in Saddar, 5 in Iqbal Town and 48 in Model Town for violating anti-smog laws. Zero tolerance actions against Government SOPs issued in view of air pollution are being strictly implemented and full support is being provided to the concerned departments.
8 accused were arrested for burning fuel, tar coal and carbon board, 87 accused were arrested for carrying construction material and 18 accused were arrested for burning crop residues. 25 accused were arrested for burning tyres, plastic, shopping bags, 49 accused for violating laws in factories and factories and 25 accused for setting fire to garbage. It should be remembered that earlier Lahore High Court had ordered arrests across the province to control smog. Markets were ordered to close at 8 pm.
Markets across the province will be closed on Sunday. Entry of vehicles on the motorway and ring road was prohibited. Trucks and trailers were banned from entering the city. A hearing was held on petitions filed in the Lahore High Court for smog removal. Justice Shahid Karim heard a case related to smog removal. The vehicles were ordered to stop immediately.
The Dolphin Police was also ordered to take action against vehicles emitting smoke. The court in its order said that the traffic should disperse after 11 pm. Vehicles emitting smoke should be stopped immediately wherever they are seen. Secretary Transport has been ordered to seal the buses emitting smoke at lorry bases. The court has issued an order to provide work for 2 days in all private offices. Justice Shahid Karim said that a meeting should be held with the Advocate General, CCPO and other relevant officers. The Advocate General should inform the officers about the court order to close the vehicles that are left in the open. The Advocate General will monitor activities related to smog.
