Islamabad (News International New - 29th November 2024) The physical remand of journalist Matiullah Jan has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court. Advocate Iman Mazari has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court against the physical remand of Matiullah Jan. The petition has taken the position that Matiullah Jan was arrested in a false and fabricated case. A request has been made to hold a hearing on the petition against the physical remand today.
Advocate Iman Mazari has further said that if the hearing is held tomorrow or Monday instead of today, then our petition will become ineffective. It should be noted that yesterday, the Islamabad court, while pronouncing a reserved verdict, had approved the two-day physical remand of journalist Matiullah Jan.
The arrested journalist Matiullah Jan was presented before the court of Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra of the Anti-Terrorism Court.
The prosecutor had requested a 30-day remand. Prosecutor Raja Naveed appeared in court, while Advocate Faisal Chaudhry appeared on behalf of Matiullah Jan. During the hearing, Prosecutor Raja Naveed requested for 30 days of physical remand of Matiullah Jan. The prosecutor said that ice has to be recovered from Matiullah Jan, which caused laughter in the court.
Advocate Faisal Chaudhry opposed the physical remand of the accused and said that we should be given some time to consult. The prosecutor said that we have to see where Matiullah Jan got the drugs from. The court reserved its decision on Matiullah Jan’s request for 30 days of remand after the arguments of the parties. Later, the court, while giving a reserved decision, approved the two-day physical remand of journalist Matiullah Jan.
Earlier, the Anti-Terrorism Court reserved its decision on the remand application of Matiullah Jan and allowed him to meet his family. It may be recalled that journalist Matiullah Jan was arrested from the E-9 check post and transferred to the Margalla Police Station and a case was registered against him. According to the FIR, Matiullah Jan’s vehicle was signaled to stop at the Islamabad checkpoint on the night of November 28, but the vehicle hit the constable Mudassar on duty and injured him. When the vehicle stopped, Matiullah Jan snatched the official weapon and threatened to kill the official while the accused was drunk. Islamabad Police had confirmed the arrest of journalist Matiullah Jan. Islamabad Police arrested journalist Matiullah Jan from the E-9 check post on November 28. The police registered a case against journalist Matiullah Jan and transferred him to the Margalla Police Station. The FIR further stated that the accused was drunk. Ice has also been recovered from the accused's car. The accused was drunk and legal action is being taken against him. It was reported that last night, Islamabad Police arrested journalist Matiullah Jan from the E-9 check post.
