Lahore (News International / Pakistan News - 02nd December, 2024) Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided to cancel the route permits of vehicles with faulty engines and emitting excessive smoke to control smog. In a statement issued here on Monday, the senior provincial minister said that vehicles with faulty engines and emitting excessive smoke will not be allowed to ply on the roads, while the Chief Minister has issued instructions to the Transport Department and the Police in this regard.

She said that the entry of trucks, buses and heavy vehicles into Lahore on Fridays and Sundays has also been banned to eliminate smoke, dust and dirt. She said that under the anti-smog campaign, six kilns have been demolished in Lodhran, Okara, Vehari and Sargodha, while 3 industrial units, 1 steel rolling mill, 1 textile unit and 1 rice mill have been sealed.


The senior provincial minister said that more than 1,000 vehicles with faulty engines and excessive smoke were inspected, while 144 vehicles were stopped, and 64 sand trolleys without tarpaulins and not following smog rules were also stopped.


He said that water spraying and cleaning of roads are ongoing, while notices have been issued to the concerned persons for violations during the inspection of commercial generators and barbecue points. He said that under the guidance of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, eight months of anti-smog measures are improving, comprehensive measures and a solid policy will improve the environmental future of the province. Maryam Aurangzeb said that today's measures will form the basis for the elimination of smog in 8 to 10 years, the fight against air pollution is a fight to protect the lives of citizens. He said that a healthy and safe environment can be provided only with the cooperation of every citizen.
