Washington (News International News - 03 December 2024) The nomination of Indian-origin Kashyap Patel to head the country's intelligence agency "FBI" by newly elected US President Donald Trump has already become controversial. It should be noted that Donald Trump had announced the appointment of Indian-origin Kashyap Patel, alias Kesh, as the director of the US intelligence agency "FBI", but Trump's critics are raising questions about whether Kashyap Patel is qualified to lead such an important agency or not.
While announcing his nomination, Trump had said that Kashyap Patel is an expert lawyer, investigator, and social activist who believes in "America First". He has worked tirelessly throughout his career to expose corruption and protect justice and the American people. However, on the other hand, there are concerns about Kashyap Patel, who was known as Trump's most loyal ally during his first term as president, whether Trump wants to use an important and non-political security agency for political purposes. Earlier, Donald Trump appointed Indian-origin Vivek Ramasamy to work with Elon Musk in the Department of Government Performance Improvement.
In 2017, Trump appointed Christopher Wray as FBI director for a 10-year term, but when the FBI helped investigate the issue of keeping secret records against Trump, Trump stopped supporting Christopher Wray. Now Trump has announced that Kashyap Patel will be appointed in his place. After Trump's announcement, the FBI said in a statement that every day FBI employees work to protect the American people from growing threats.
Kashyap Patel's appointment would require the resignation or firing of current FBI Director Christopher Wray. Trump did not say anything about this in his post. Kashyap Patel himself has been a strong critic of the FBI's role. Now that Trump assumes the presidency, he will have to get the nomination approved by the US Senate. Kashyap Patel, 44, is considered one of Donald Trump's most loyal allies. After Trump's victory, there was speculation that Kashyap Patel could be appointed as the head of the US intelligence agency, the CIA, but Trump announced that he would nominate John Radcliffe to head the CIA.
Kashyap Patel has served as Chief of Staff to the US Secretary of Defense. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism on the National Security Council. Kashyap Patel also served as Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence for the US. During his tenure, he oversaw the operations of 17 intelligence agencies and provided daily briefings to the President.
He began his career as a lawyer and argued cases ranging from murder and drug-related crimes to complex financial crimes. Kashyap Patel's father came to the United States from Gujarat, India, and worked for an American airline there. The US Department of Defense said that Kashyap Patel is a native of New York City. He graduated from the University of Richmond and then returned to New York, where he graduated in law. He also received a certificate in international law from University College London, UK. He loves to play ice hockey. Kashyap Patel runs a company called "Tresol", which was the company that advised Trump on "America First", for which the company has received more than $10 million in fees in the last two years. Kashyap Patel mentions in his book “Government Gangster” that he grew up in Queens and Long Island in the United States. He said that his parents were not rich and came here from India. He said that like many parents, my mother and father encouraged me to focus on education and to be aware of my religion and heritage. That is why I have such a deep connection to India. Kashyap Patel also runs an NGO called “Kash Foundation”. This NGO provides funds to military personnel and law enforcement agencies. This organization spends money on scholarships for American children and on helping those who expose government corruption. Kashyap Patel said in an interview that the NGO had helped those who rioted in the US Parliament in the year 2021. Congressman Chris Murphy of the Democratic Party has said that he fears that Kash Patel will only protect the interests of Republicans and will not care about the safety of every American citizen.
