Islamabad (News International / Pakistan News - NNI. 17th December, 2024) Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir branch, Muhammad Farooq Rahmani, has strongly condemned the Modi government in India for rapidly converting Muslim mosques and shrines into Hindu temples. According to Kashmir Media Service, Farooq Rahmani, in a statement, termed this move by the Modi government as a clear violation of the Places of Worship Act 1991, under which places of worship in India are protected and emphasized on maintaining these places of worship in their position as of August 15, 1947.
Hindu extremists in India are provocatively attacking the common history and cultural heritage of the region by spreading false propaganda of building historical mosques of Muslims on the site of Hindu temples.
Farooq Rahmani warned that such actions are part of a larger agenda to further marginalize and ultimately displace the Muslim population in India, which is a dangerous development.
He added that targeting Muslims and their holy places on the basis of religion or ethnicity is also a violation of international law. He compared the Modi government’s actions against Muslims in India to those of Israel in Palestine, saying that the Modi government is pursuing Zionist policies to distort the population ratio in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and convert the Muslim majority identity of the occupied territory into a minority.
Farooq Rahmani expressed grave concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in occupied Kashmir and deplored the curbs on the freedom of the judiciary and media and the rule of law. He said that thousands of political leaders, activists and human rights defenders have been in jails for decades. He said that the current government of occupied Kashmir has no authority over state affairs.
The executive powers are fully vested in the Lieutenant Governor and India. To distort the population ratio, Kashmiri Muslims are being removed from government offices and non-Kashmiri Hindus are being appointed in their place. Farooq Rahmani urged the United Nations to increase pressure on India to resolve the Kashmir issue through the implementation of its relevant resolutions. He said that the deteriorating human rights situation in occupied Kashmir requires immediate action by the United Nations to end India’s settlement policies in Jammu and Kashmir. He also urged world powers and Muslim countries to stop India from its expansionist ambitions in the region.
