The Special Security Unit under the Security and Emergency Services Division has crossed several milestones.

․Karachi (UrduPoint News/ Pakistan Point News - Online. December 31, 2024) The Special Security Unit under the Security and Emergency Services Division crossed several milestones in the year 2024. DIG Security Dr. Maqsood Ahmad, Commandant SSU Anwar Khetran and their subordinate officers took all possible steps to maintain law and order and serve the public. On the occasion of the General Elections 2024, more than 1200 SSU commandos performed security duties at highly sensitive, sensitive and normal polling stations in all districts of Karachi.
The SSU commandos were also on alert as a quick response force in case of any emergency in different districts and SSU headquarters. Tight security arrangements were made on the occasion of the visit of Iranian Centurion Dr. Ebrahim Raisi to Karachi.
The Iranian President also visited the Quaid-e-Azam shrine and laid flowers during his visit. DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Dr. Maqsood Ahmed congratulated the officers and men for performing their duties with full dedication, hard work and enthusiasm.
DIG Security said that the police men and officers have raised the prestige of the department by discharging their responsibilities with grace. A comprehensive security plan was prepared by the Special Security Unit (SSU) for the matches of the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League played at the National Bank Stadium Karachi from February 28 to March 18. According to the security plan, a total of 1000 commandos of the SSU, along with personnel from Traffic Police, Special Branch, Rapid Response Force (RRF), District Police, Sindh Rangers and other law enforcement agencies performed duty at the stadium, practice ground, Karachi Airport, routes, hotels and various other locations, while expert marksmen were also deployed at sensitive locations.
The SSU SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team of Sindh Police displayed outstanding skills in the international edition of the UAE SWAT Challenge 2024 hosted by Dubai Police at Al Rawaya Range. The SWAT team was the first and only team from Pakistan to represent the country in an international event. The training of SSU commandos continued this year as the commandos passed out from various training centers.
A grand ceremony was held at the Special Security Unit Headquarters in honor of 40 commandos who passed out from the Naval Special Operations Training Center (NSOTC). The chief guest of the ceremony was DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Dr. Maqsood Ahmed. The ceremony appreciated the dedication and commitment of the commandos who successfully completed the 8-week counter-terrorism course.
Further, 10 SSU commandos completed the counter-terrorism course from the National Counter-Terrorism Center Kharian and 20 commandos completed the counter-terrorism squad course from the Anti-Terrorist Training School, Samli, Islamabad. The Special Security Unit of Sindh Police organized a display at the PHC Job Fair and Education Expo in Hall No. 6 of Expo Center Karachi to highlight the services of the security sectors, promote modern policing and encourage the youth to join the police service. Pakistan Army, Navy, Anti-Narcotics Force, State Bank of Pakistan and other government and private institutions set up their stalls at the job fair. The job fair was organized by the Pakistan Hindu Council, where booths were set up to connect job seekers and company owners from Karachi and other parts of the country. On the occasion of the arrival of the spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat, Muharram, Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), SSU, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, prepared comprehensive security plans and provided security.
A flag hoisting ceremony was organized at the Special Security Unit (SSU) Headquarters on the occasion of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day. At the ceremony, DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Dr. Maqsood Ahmed hoisted the national flag. An Independence Day shooting competition was held between the diplomatic corps on the occasion of Independence Day at the SSU Headquarters. Diplomatic personnel from the United States, Russia, Britain, Turkey, France, Malaysia, Iran, China, South Korea, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Afghanistan participated in this competition and demonstrated their professional shooting skills.
Who distributed cash prizes, medals and certificates among the position holders in the competition. On the occasion of Police Martyrs' Day, a special central ceremony was organized at SSU Headquarters in which DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Dr. Maqsood Ahmed, Commandant SSU Anwar Ali Khetran, SSU Ali Mardan Khoso, SP SSU Chokundi Headquarters Shamail Riaz, SP Security-I, Malik Asghar Usman, SP Security II Abdul Azim Tonio participated.
Senior officers and police personnel of Security and Emergency Services Division paid exemplary tribute to the police martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect the lives of the country and citizens. During the Dangal Submission and Grappling Championship Pakistan 2024, SSU commandos demonstrated grappling skills and won three (03) gold medals in different categories.
Police Constable Shabbir performed brilliantly in the 70 kg category, Constable Arjun in the 68 kg category and Constable Zeeshan in the 65 kg category. The Special Security Unit of Sindh Police has various posts including Junior Clerk (BPS-11), Commandos (BPS-07), Driver Constable (BPS-07), Electrician (BPS-06), Mason (BPS-04), Plumber (BPS-04), Tailor Master (BPS-04), Painter (BPS-03), Carpenter (BPS-03), Denter (BPS-03), Auto Mechanic (BPS-03), Naib Qasid (BPS-01), Barber (BPS-01), Cook (BPS-01), Waiter (BPS-01), Sanitary Worker (BPS-01) The recruitment process for the posts has been started. On the directions of DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Dr. Maqsood Ahmed, a one-day free eye screening camp was organized at the Special Security Unit (SSU) Headquarters for police personnel and their families.
The camp was organized in collaboration with the digital media network Voice of Nation (VON) and POB Trust Eye Hospital. A Self-Defense and Firearms Safety Course was organized at the SSU Headquarters in which a delegation consisting of faculty members and students of DHA Safa University, students of UIT University participated and benefited from the practical experience of the self-defense course.
The aim of the course was to make the delegation aware of various precautionary measures in case of any emergency or unfortunate incident. During the training, the faculty members were informed about martial arts, firing and the use of different types of weapons. Later, he also practiced firing a live ammunition. A delegation from the New York Police Department (NYPD), a delegation of officers under training led by Deputy Commandant Pakistan Navy War College Lahore Ehsan Ahmed Khan, 38 officers under training at the National Institute of Management (NIM), Deputy DG Airport Security Force (ASF) Brigadier Salahuddin Ayubi, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, former Inspector General of Police Sindh Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, an International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation led by ICC Security Reiki Team Head David Mesker, ASPs under training under the 51st Specialized Training Program, 27th Initial Command Course and various other delegations visited the Special Security Unit Headquarters during the year 2024.
