Opening ceremony of the 7th International Conference on Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development held at Mehran University

Islamabad (News / Pakistan Point News - NNI. 06 February 2025) The British Deputy Speaker along with a delegation met with Acting Chairman Senate Syedal Khan at Parliament House. The delegation also included the Political Advisor of the British High Commission and officials of the House of Commons. The Acting Chairman Senate warmly welcomed the British delegation and emphasized the importance of promoting parliamentary relations between the two countries.


He said that Pakistan is committed to further strengthening relations with the United Kingdom through parliamentary diplomacy. The meeting discussed democratic values, parliamentary cooperation, and various aspects of bilateral relations. Speaking on the occasion, Acting Chairman Senate Syedal Khan said that protecting the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people is the collective responsibility of the international community.

He called on the British government to play its effective and active role in ending human rights violations in Palestine. He said that Britain, as a major global power, should take concrete steps to establish peace in the Middle East and further intensify its diplomatic efforts for a just solution to this issue at the global level. During the discussion, the Acting Chairman Senate also highlighted the national resources of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gwadar Port.

He said that Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are regions rich in natural resources, and their effective utilization can further strengthen the country’s economy. He told the British delegation that Gwadar Port is a trade hub for Pakistan and the region, which can provide excellent opportunities for international investors. The Acting Chairman Senate informed the British delegation about the vast investment opportunities in Pakistan and said that the country has a suitable environment for foreign investment in various sectors.

He said that the Government of Pakistan is committed to providing facilities to investors, and in this regard, all foreign ambassadors and global business entities are invited to take advantage of investment opportunities in Pakistan. He urged British businessmen and entrepreneurs to invest in Pakistan’s energy, technology, and industrial sectors to promote economic cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting also discussed the proceedings of the House, consultations between the government and the opposition, and legislative matters. During this time, discussions were also held on further expanding economic and trade relations. Both sides agreed that mutual economic development can be furthered by promoting trade relations, and there is a need for further cooperation at the parliamentary level in this regard. A special luncheon was organized in honor of the British Deputy Speaker and his delegation at the Senate Banquet Hall, which was hosted by the Acting Chairman Senate. The British Deputy Speaker appreciated the democratic progress of Pakistan and thanked the Acting Chairman Senate for his hospitality.
